Being an educator we are in such a niche and valuable position. The kids or teenagers that we have as students, regardless if they like us as a teacher or not, are going to take in account what we say and bring to the table. We are one of the only people in their life that is not a peer, or parent that will bring possible viewpoints and opinions. These will obviously be catered to specific topics based on age and class- but I hope to be able to provide a middle ground for such topics, while holding ground to what I believe. I want my classroom to be a place where people can learn and grow- but to grow you have to be challenged sometimes.
The only way you can base opinions on something is to have to go against another. I think bringing a common good to the classroom as an educator means inviting the space/openness to have discussions- in means of it building towards something, not just allowing useless arguments go on – but ones that my students could learn from.
